Woodbine Racetrack Development is a multi phase project led by Woodbine Entertainment Group that is transforming its 684-acre site into “a city within a city” and seeks to be a future entertainment hub of Northwest Toronto. Phase I of the project required 350 ft of shoring system on the west side of the site to facilitate 9 m excavation while working with encroachment restrictions. Aura-Con implemented a soldier pile and lagging system with continuous face waler and a single row of rakers that was designed by Tara Engineering & Structural Consultants Inc. Aura-Con also installed underpinning for an existing retaining wall to facilitate excavation below the footing of the existing retaining wall. One of the major challenges of the project was to identify and work around many live underground utilities that were connected to an existing operational Casino adjacent to the site.
