Project Description

Phase 3 – Sheet Piling

Woodbine Racetrack Development is one of the major development projects in Ontario. It will include mixed use residential and commercial space, sports and recreational facilities, parks and public spaces, new casino, hotels, restaurants, and live entertainment venue. Phase 3 of Woodbine Casino project required a 3 m deep excavation for a strip footing that was less than 1m from 300 mm live high-pressure underground watermain. Aura-Con proposed installation of sheet-piles between the watermain and proposed excavation area to provide soil retention system and to protect the high pressure watermain. One of the main challenges was the potential damage to the high pressure watermain due to the vibration caused during the installation of the sheet-piles. To avoid the potential damage to the high pressure watermain, we installed a vibration monitoring system that was continuously monitored to keep the vibration at safe levels. Aura-Con successfully installed 1350 lineal ft of sheet piling wall. The sheets were driven to the depth of 30 ft.
