Project Description

Structural Caissons – Phase 4 & 5

Woodbine Racetrack Development is a multi phase project led by Woodbine Entertainment Group that is transforming its 684-acre site into “a city within a city” and seeks to be a future entertainment hub of Northwest Toronto. Phase 4 of the project required a deep foundation system for a multi storey parkade on the Northeast side of the property. Aura-Con drilled and installed a total of 38 Structural Caissons designed by Tarra Engineering & Structural Consultants Inc to support this multi storey parkade. All 38 Structural Caissons were 84” in diameter and 60ft in depth. One major challenge we faced during this project was placement of the rebar cages due to its size. Each rebar cage was 17m long and weighted 5 tonnes. All 38 Caissons were successfully drilled, installed and poured ahead of schedule. Phase 5 of the project required a deep foundation system to support a canopy for a proposed building. Due to existing soil conditions within the location of the proposed caissons, use of liners were required. Aura-Con drilled and installed a total of 15 Structural Caissons designed by Tarra Engineering & Structural Consultants Inc. All 15 Structural Caissons were 59” in diameter and 37ft in depth.
